We also put out an occasional series on digital transformation and Industry 4.0 called (R)Evolutionizing Manufacturing, and we annually produce predictions for the year ahead in our Crystal Ball Report.
Our montly e-handbooks and occasional white papers, including our annual and often-cited State of Initiative Report, also are popular with our audience and sponsors and advertisers, who include many leading manufacturing technology providers.
Our coverage and programming are primarily aimed at manufacturing stakeholders—such as IT and OT personnel, plant engineers, chief information officers and chief technology officers—who are responsible for day-to-day oversight of how their companies use and upgrade their technology. But our content also is geared toward the C-suite and the decision-makers in charge of the direction and implementation of software, hardware, and plant control systems.

History of Smart Industry
The idea for Smart Industry dates back to 2013, when the concept of Industry 4.0 was only about two years old. IIoT had just arrived on the technological scene, and the general concept of digital transformation in manufacturing had yet to catch on, so our publication had found its niche.
Smart Industry was born as an industry conference primarily, one that would help educate manufacturing stakeholders on how to best take advantage of the new technologies poised to revolutionize their diverse production operations.
Our digital and then-print media presence was launched primarily to build awareness about the conference—to attract exhibitors to and sponsors of the event and industrial practitioners to this new venue. The first Smart Industry print magazine was launched in June 2015, before the show took place.
The inaugural Smart Industry conference was held a few months later in Chicago in September 2015 and was convened annually through 2019. But in 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was never restarted. Smart Industry continues today as an online-only publication; the print magazine ceased publication in 2023, though we hold those issues in archives.
