Scott Achelpohl, an experienced journalist with a background in the trucking and transportation industries and military affairs, joined Smart Industry as its managing editor earlier this week. In this new role, Achelpohl will be responsible for writing articles and managing material submitted by our contributors.
Working with Editor-in-Chief Robert Schoenberger, he will also set the editorial direction of the title, pushing for more information technology (IT) coverage in the manufacturing space. The personnel changes on the brand come in response to founding editor Chris McNamara’s recent departure.
“While we all miss Chris and the hard work that he put into establishing Smart Industry, I’m excited to bring Scott on board as we push this brand in new directions,” Schoenberger said. “During our search for a new editor, Scott really impressed our team with his intelligence, professionalism, and his thoughts on where Smart Industry could go next.”
Achelpohl comes to Smart Industry from FleetOwner, where he was also managing editor. Both Smart Industry and FleetOwner are part of parent company Endeavor Business Media.
“This is an exciting—and, for me, new—business-to-business opportunity, a fresh industry for me to cover and explore,” Achelpohl said. “I’m going to be very public-facing, and my door will always be open to industry stakeholders, because they (you) deserve it. IT has an ever-expanding role in how all things are made, and every day there are all-new ways IT is being used. We intend to keep SI squarely in front of smart-industry stakeholders and continue and build upon Chris’ thought leadership in this space.”
