Cyber attacks on ICS are rising sharply, so preparing assets to operate safely in an IIoT world easily justifies the cost of a Design Architecture Review (DAR). The ICS-CERT even offers a free DAR to those operating critical infrastructure assets.
Complete connectivity through Industrial IoT technology helps organizations connect and collect more data. Addressing security issues is especially important when sharing that data in critical infrastructures such as oil and gas and utilities.

Getting everything connected to make your factory as smart as it can be is a daunting task. And then, exactly what to do with all that data lurking out in the fog? One key: Do the processing closer to the data source.
There is a lot of commentary around the rapid growth of networked objects in the world and the amount of data that will proliferate from them. But for capital and asset intensive industries like mining and oil & gas, there are key gaps in the conversation.

Most sensors require more consistent power than batteries, solar or wireless sources can provide. One possible solution is PoE, which Emerson says enables wireless connection without extra wired power infrastructure.
If the Internet of Things can be defined as “connecting people, data, processes and things,” then the Industrial IoT adds machines and businesses to the equation. Whether that is revolutionary or not is based on your perspective.
The IIRA is a formal overview of systems architecture from a high-level perspective. It covers everything from business goals to system interoperability. For now, let’s concentrate on how this applies to data connectivity.

At one time, Allen-Bradley, now an important brand within Rockwell Automation, had a first-rate orchestra and chorus. This historical tidbit ties in rather nicely with Rockwell’s leadership in the IIoT arena.
